Abstract:
Without hesitation, in a world plagued with uncertainty, Martha V. De León Leal takes us into her intimate story. As this book unfolds, an unexpected clarity begins to arise from the desperation and grief…a plan that comes intended for our benefit. We begin to see that even life’s most trying of times can bring about happiness, if we are able to rise above our sorrow and overcome bitterness. In this book, the reader will see how this young mother and her husband struggle to survive, knowing that regardless of their own decisions, God will take their beloved son. Martha inspires us in this intense story by reminding us that one of the best roads to spiritual growth is empathy, so rare in people at times. Sweet Messenger is a true lesson of living that shows us how we can find peace and tranquility during life’s most painful moments. Her courage and strength are an example to facilitate understanding that some tragedies, even after tearing us apart, have the power to reconcile us with God and within.

Overwhelming yet wonderful life experience , 02/26/2007
Reviewer: Tracy Bercier
After reading the “Sweet Messenger”, I am compelled to let Martha & other readers know how well of a job she did at putting her life experiences into words. By writing this book she managed to find a way for others to feel like they’re not alone when being confronted with life’s challenges. She also found a way to teach people with similar experiences to always stay positive even when life seems at its worst. I find I very seldom sit down to read a book and when I do, it usually takes me quite some time to not only be intrigued but captivated enough to complete it. The “Sweet Messenger” is a remarkable book and I was able to read it in one sitting. I was overcome with every emotion humanly possible. One moment I was drowning in tears, the next scared and in the concluding stages, I was overwhelmed with joy for Martha. This book is very easy reading; all ages will find it to be an empowering piece to read. I have recommended it to all my friends and family, as I know everyone that gets the opportunity to read it will be able to learn something from Martha’s experiences and will simply love it. Congratulations Martha on being strong enough to overlook what people might think of you by putting your story into words. Thank you for not hiding yourself from the world. I admire your brilliance and am honored to be considered your friend. Tracy Bercier

Every mother must read this truly inspirational story. Being a mother means being able to open up your heart to emotions one never fully realizes exist. Martha shows us all how raw and vunerable we become when faced with the pain of losing someone so entirely precious. Yet, the lesson she learns and lives by today is one that has forever changed her life for the better. I want to thank Martha for having the strength and courage to write about her Angel. I want to thank her for being able to admit and share with mothers her struggles with depression. I want to learn from her for rising above the bitterness, and seeing the beauty and joy in giving birth to her son. I want to thank her for every moment of this that she shared with me, because it made me a better mother, a better friend. I want to say thank you to you Martha, for being you...for being the best friend I've ever known. You are a beautiful person. I love you! Denise

A very moving narrative about courage, faith, and love. I was moved by the author's emotional battle through a very painful episode. The couple's will to overcome their crisis is admirable and a great example to all of us. This book is a must-read for all! Highly recommended for those of us in need of spiritual nurture.

The author's story is beautifully told. I know all who read it will find it inspirational. I am reminded of a quote by Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.""
