Abstract:
Ribeye is a legendary Bullbarian warrior living in an Iron Age world of long ago. Together, he and his kid brother, eight year old Cubesteak, depart the rolling green pastures of Bullbaria on a quest to find their long lost father Flanksteak. Their journey is perilous: they must battle hoof-to-hoof against cutthroat pirates, and learn to survive amid a Bullbarian’s worst nightmare… civilization! When the evil wizard Suvlaki develops a major beef against them, the steaks are raised to dangerous heights, as the brothers must struggle not to fall victim to the dark spell of the fabled Jewel of Baloni!

What a fun read! Kids will love the parade of exotic and downright offbeat characters whom the two bulls meet, fight and often befriend. I especially liked the warm relationship between the protective Ribeye and his gullible, vulnerable kid brother. Try this for a rollicking adventure! -Diane Cadrain Hartford, CT.

A veritable cornucopia of creativity. This story flows with a river of imagination, its characters are a blast of fresh air, and the illustrations hint at the "cinematic" potential that this book truly has. But the best indicator is that my kids are devouring this book without being intimidated by the 230 pages. I know you have a winner. Bravo. Enrique Morales PITCHFACTORY Exec. Producer

  A very imaginative book! , 03/09/2004

This book was a lot of fun to read both for my wife and myself as well as our kids. It is very nicely illustrated. The characters have a lot of heart and the story is innovative and fresh. At times the kids by themselves found it a challenge to read but this only encouraged them to seek out the meaning of certain words from adults. All in all a very promising work. Bravo!

I loved this book! The characters were really believable and the writing was very clear and created pictures in my head that were just awesome. What happens next for ribeye? Do they find their dad? Do Filet Minyon and Ribeye get married? That would make Cubesteak an UNCLE!

  Interesting book! , 05/04/2004

I find the intertwining relationship between the two brothers, Ribeye and Cubesteak and their search for their father to be well crafted and highly entertaining. I must say that I did not think I would like this book at first, on the surface it seems to be more cartoon-like from viewing the cover but once I began to read it, the story unfolded nicely and i found myself rooting for these fellows. All this coming from a 29 year-old-male as well! What really struck me about this book was the way the characters came so alive, McLaughlin has done a wonderful job bringing the brothers and their world to life. I can really see the images he creates in my mind which is quite a feat. I also like the play on words that Mclaughlin uses like Bananastan and The Calamari Desert. Oncve you get into the story it plays very simlar to a Conan the Barbarian story but without the heavy-handedness and killing. Once of the funniest parts was where Ribeye and Cubesteak meet Pigleg the Pirate. He was a great character and I think you may have a spin-off on your hands as well. Also the art was a nice addition, the artist Milo illustrating bits and pieces of the stories, peppering the already rich written visuals. My only critique would be to have more art in the next one!
