Abstract:
Mildred, newly widowed and used to her husband taking care of her, thinks she has become a wimp. Then the unthinkable happens – she witnesses something horrible. After overhearing some policemen talking about the crime, she realizes that if she is going to survive she has no one to depend on but herself. When the killers find out about her and the video she took of their crime, Mildred has to find a place to hide. She picks the mountains. She is over fifty, over-weight, and has never lived in the mountains in her life. The adventures she has as she faces wild animals, arsonists, poachers, killers, the weather and just general life in a new and difficult environment, forces Mildred to reach for unknown reservoirs of strength. Can she do it? Will she have the strength she needs to survive and to put the killers away?
