Introduction
Let's Take A Walk… A Soulful Journey to Empowerment is a collection of poems that will change the direction and quality of your life. Our Heavenly Father has given us this wonderful gift of life. But when we allow fear and confusion to dwell within our spirits, life can seem more like a curse. God has blessed me with the purpose of delivering messages concerning relationships and psychological barriers; many unique to African Americans. This book is an inspirational guide to self-empowerment and self-discovery. These messages are intended to remind you that you were created for a purpose; not just by chance. You will find that with God’s unconditional love, you can overcome any obstacle. It is time to free yourself from limitations, live purposely, and enjoy this beautiful gift God has given you. I pray that these readings will help you birth your purpose; allowing you to live abundantly.

Jesus said, “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HATH ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HATH SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PREACH DELIVERANCE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERING OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THEM THAT ARE BRUISED.” –Luke 4:18
Layers (of a woman scorned) Part 1 Womanhood began with Eve, created in nakedness…pure and blemish free….
The serpent came and manipulated her destroying her trust and security.
She realized she was naked because of what she had done…. So she covered herself in shame and pain, the enemy had won.
Part 2 A Little girl is filled with compassion and trust, loved her daddy so…. But he never seems to be home, he’s always on the go.
He promises he’ll never leave, but he has to work late to provide… She waits days for his return, while mommy cries and cries.
He finally returns home and she is filled with joy…. He brought back food and riches...he even brought her a toy!
But, he says he has to leave again, and this time longer than before… Her mommy begs him to stay, while a strange lady peeks inside the door.
Her daddy holds the lady’s hand while they leave without a trace… The little girl felt a piercing in her heart as tears streamed down her face.
As her mommy held her tightly trying to hug away despair… She made a vow to never love and trust so deep because daddy didn’t care.
Part 3
A teenage girl lay shivering in doubt… Wondering why this she could not show love without.
He says, “You know I love you, everything is alright… They can’t call you a little girl anymore; you’re becoming a woman tonight.”
He kisses her softly, taking her breath away… “This has to be right,” she says “no one has ever made me feel this way.”
She stares at the ceiling waiting for the pain and grunting to end… Hoping this would be enough to show him love, and she will never have to be alone again.
As he spills into her sweetness; and pulls from her embrace… He says, “I have to leave now baby” And he left without seeing the pain in her face.
And there she lay shivering in doubt and with a loss of security… Wondering why he left her alone …..Sheets soaked in his sweat and her purity.
Part 4
Life has been hard on her, not many people to trust… So, she stands before him, b/c he said he loves her the most.
Sure he calls her names at times and slaps her around here and there… But, he’s the only one who didn’t leave her; that shows he really cares.
She’s been in and out of relationships with guys always trying to run game… They reminded her of her father’s love: hurting her, leaving her; all men are the same.
So today, she stands before him, her loneliness ends now… But, she thinks about all the times he beat her as they exchange wedding vows.
LETTING GO We all will experience pain throughout this journey of life. Sometimes we will be able let go of hurtful experiences, no matter how severe. At other times, we hold on to them allowing them to metastasize and control our lives. I found myself entering into relationships with embedded pain and emotional scaring from previous encounters. I hoped that my new found love would ease the pain and disappointment that dwelled in me. But, soon I found that same pain resurfacing, and was faced with yet another unhealthy relationship. Through prayer and self-reflection, I realized that Jesus wanted me to let go of that self-destructive pain and forgive myself and my wrongdoers so that I could have eternal healing. “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” Isaiah 43:18-19.
Our Savior can peel away, exfoliate, the many layers of pain and abuse, freeing us from psychological bondage.
Exfoliative Love A woman's love is strong but there's only so much we can endure on this earth… Sometimes the layers of pain can become so thick that we become numb and forget our self-worth. Indeed our beauty is skin deep and its radiance can surface through
