EXCERPT FROM: VASECTOMY......BEFORE AND AFTER By Dr. Lou Zaninovich
"Its Just a Little Snip!"
Your good wife has done so much for you, made sacrifices, carried the babies and suffered the birthing process, breast fed, changed dirty nappies etc etc. It's the least you could do for her.
"Its Just a Little Snip!"
It can even be done in the Doctor's rooms. You only need some local anaesthetic. The job is finished and done in Half an Hour!"
Its very safe. Complications are very, very rare.
So they say.......... so they say.
But read on:..........
Perhaps, you and or your partner are thinking of Vasectomy as a method of permanent contraception. You have heard from many sources, even from your medical advisor that it is easy, simple, safe, the best choice available. But maybe you are still not sure. The majority of Doctors won't try to talk you out of it. In fact, they will encourage you. This is because the general consensus of opinion is that it is quite OK to have a Vasectomy. And, of course, there are many men who are quite happy with their vasectomy
However, life is never that simple and as I have intimated there are problems with vasectomy. It's a fact. Some men have problems. Some men, have agonising problems. You can read a few of their stories in the Post Vasectomy Case Studies chapter on page 29
Before you do make up your mind, you owe it to yourself and to your partner to understand just what the operation is, what it does and what are the documented problems that can arise after the operation and whether your risk is greater than average. . No doctor will deny that there is a Negative side to the vasectomy debate. I am going to inform you of that negative side even though I know it will put doubts into your mind about the Vasectomy operation. I know the decision would be easier for you if your Doctor just told you "It is a piece of cake, don't worry".
It is true that a majority proportion of men who have had Vasectomies state that they have had no problems that they can attribute to the operation. But, as I said, there can be problems. In fact, there is a growing number of highly respected Doctors who have serious reservations about the Vasectomy operation. I am one of those doctors and I would like you to know the other side of the story so you can make up your own mind.
I often wonder, just how many men there are out there who have had problems. If you have had a vasectomy and find after reading this book that you are one of those, I would love to hear from you. I intend to keep a list of post-vasectomy problems on my web site: (www.medicine4men.com)
INTRODUCTION
Generally speaking, most doctors are so convinced that Vasectomy is such a simple benign operation that they don't routinely ask you if you have had one. Just think. If you are a guy who has had a vasectomy, does your doctor have your full past history and if he has , has he documented your history of a vasectomy, and if so, is he aware of it? There are still some doctors who have all their records in hand written journals that are difficult to organise and old information is difficult to retrieve. Even when a man presents with problems of the testicle or epididymis it is not routine to check if you have had a vasectomy or to consider that it could be related. In fact, I note most times, when I am obtaining a full medical history at the first Visit when I ask: "Have you had any operations?" the answer is No. Then I always ask specifically: "Have you had a Vasectomy?" and I then get the answer: "Oh Yes I have had a Vasectomy. And you know he doesn't even consider it an "operation"
A few months ago, I saw an old school friend of mine for the first time in forty years. He came to see me for a full check up, so I went through my routine which is quite thorough. I found he had had a vasectomy twenty eight years ago. "Did the vasectomy cause any problems?" I asked "None at all!" was the answer. Further history revealed he had two episodes of epididymitis, saw a specialist, had treatment. But this was a year after the vasectomy so no one, not even his specialist even thought it could be related to the vasectomy. Further on again in the history, he started recounting symptoms that were typical of "male menopause" due to relative testosterone deficiency. When I later examined him I noted his testicles were smaller than they should be: 7cc and 10cc in volume. Instead of 15 to 20cc. . His blood tests showed a very low Testosterone level. I didn't agree with his comment that his vasectomy caused him no problems!
THE LOGIC THAT CAN'T BE IGNORED
. I have never been keen on the vasectomy operation, never performed it and never recommended it because it seemed to me to be contrary to all common medical sense. I looked at it this way:
A blocked tear duct causes conjunctivitis, A blocked skin gland duct produces pimples and infections A blocked Gall bladder duct causes Cholecystitis.(gall bladder infection) A blocked kidney duct causes pyelonephritis ( kidney infection)- A blocked salivary duct causes infection in the salivary gland A blocked Eustachian tube causes Middle Ear infection Blocking of the drainage passage of the sinuses causes "sinusitis" Blocking the aqueduct in the brain causes severe headaches Blocking the lung bronchi causes lung collapse and pneumonia Blocking the flow of urine from the kidneys causes severe pain & kidney damage Blocking the duct from the Pancreas causes pancreatitis and severe abdominal pain Blocking the bile ducts causes liver damage
So, I was naturally concerned about what could happen when you "Block" the flow in the Vas Deferens!
