Joseph L. Mbele teaches in the English Department at St. Olaf College in Minnesota. Prior to that, he taught at the university level in Tanzania. He is a widely published authority on folklore, and has presented papers on the subject at conferences all over the world. He focuses his research on the fascinating characters of the human imagination – epic heroes, tricksters, outlaws – and the intriguing relationships between them.
