Biography:
Merrill and Boots Raber, Newton, Kansas have been involved with the Kansas Paraguay Partners (KPP), organization since 1973. Their first involvement included taking their three children, ages 6, 13, 16, along to Paraguay. As a family they participated in the Asuncion, Paraguay, community. KPP, established in 1968, is one of the 60 chapters of the Partners of the Americas, the largest private volunteer exchange organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Rabers trace the beginnings of the people-to-people exchange between the citizens of Paraguay and the State of Kansas including the many dynamic projects that have occurred over the past 40 years.
The book is well documented using KPP newsletters, board minutes, interviews and archival files. 275 pictures, collected from many sources, help enrich the text describing this fascinating organization. An extensive bibliography, footnotes, and complete index make this an easy book to read and to follow up with additional research, as desired. Rabers note the goal of the KPP organization is to improve communication and understanding among the people of these two cultures. This is a small step toward building a safer and more peaceful hemisphere.
