K.S. Rish grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved to Colorado in 1975, graduating from Fort Lewis College with a BA in Art in 1979. She resided in Colorado with her family for eighteen years until moving to Ohio in 1993, where she received a BS in Elementary Education from the University of Akron in 1997, and a MA in Education from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2004. She taught elementary school before retiring in 2011. She has since moved back to Colorado where she resides with her family. Steel Bleeds is Rish’s first novel.
