Dr. Kevin McCarthy is a professor of English and Florida Studies at the University of Florida, where he has taught for over 33 years. He has also taught as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Turkey (two years) and as a Fulbright Professor of Literature in Lebanon (one year) and Saudi Arabia (two years). He spent a summer in Egypt studying Arabic and spends every other summer in Greece teaching a course on the maritime history of the Aegean area. He has had 26 books published on such subjects as pirates, shipwrecks, lighthouses (of Florida, Ireland, and Georgia), African Americans, English grammar, Saudi Arabia, baseball, and two books on Florida football.
