Abstract:
“In Sci-Fi popular culture—science fiction movies, short-stories and non-fiction books—future existential risks faced by humans are often helpfully exposed. And yet radical Green philosophies sometimes blur the actual, geographical world-reality that Homo sapiens must endure to survive. R.B. Cathcart harnesses some of these Sci-Fi epics in this studied reexamination of some fascinating examples of bizarre Green popular culture pronouncements on Geo-Engineering, Astro-Engineering, extra-terrestrial Alien Intelligence and Self-replicating Nanobots. In both geoscientific as well as Sci-Fi renderings, Earth’s bioshell is a remarkably responsive biogeophysical thin celestial body’s façade during the proclaimed ceno-Anthropocene, a hybridized volume of public and private macro-projects, extending from the distant past into our planet’s far-future, dreamed by Macro-Imagineers and Artists, that is two-sided; both surfaces of our current human-occupied bioshell’s façade are explained from entertaining Geoscience and Sci-Fi viewpoints.”
