The Bipolar Express isn’t a clinical account of behavioral affect, medication and therapy. It’s a difficult ride through sixteen years of hoarding, shoplifting, manic episodes and suicide attempts.

Abstract:
The Bipolar Express: One Christian Woman’s Life Journey in the Company of a Child with Bipolar Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome tells of a mother’s on-going struggles and victories in the presence of her daughter’s co-morbid disabilities. It is not a clinical account of diagnosis, behavioral affect, medication and therapy. The journey is a difficult ride that takes readers through sixteen years of hoarding, shoplifting, manic episodes and suicide attempts. No experiential equivalent or professional pre-requisite prepares a person to ride the Bipolar Express. This book gives families a voice when no energy remains to tell their own story.

For you or your family members, this book provides a guide on taking a trip when Bipolar Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome are on board. Useful as a guide to the past or a window into the future, the author focuses on the issues of the entire family. A clear, reader friendly view into one family's journey. And, a book that you wish that you had been able to read years ago.

This is an amazing story of the struggles this family has had and how they have had to pull together. Overall it is an easy read for a rainy day or weekend. I recommend this book for anyone interested and not just those who know someone with bipolar.

Not Just for Families of Bipolar Children , 02/07/2011

The Bipolar Express opened my eyes to the ongoing social and emotional isolation of my child's classmate. No parent wanted their son or daughter anywhere near "that boy." Ellen and Grace's story provided me with a new perspective that has led me to embrace a child that I had failed to understand. Including him in group activities isn't always easy, but it is well worth the effort for all of us. Experience a Bipolar Express journey for yourself and for someone in desperate need of understanding.

Great book for parents , 02/14/2011
Reviewer: Yolanda Truett
Having a teenage child with rebellious issues, this book gave tremendous insight into what may be causing my child difficulty. The book was easy reading, and I went through it in one night! I felt the anguish of a parent, and the passion one puts forth in finding answers for their child. I look forward to reading volume 2 in what I hope is a series on the life with this child as she grows into womanhood.

Very insightful reading. Hard to put the book down as I felt personally every journey the family has taken. It is a worthy book to be read by any educator or family encountering similiar problems. We could all benefit from this first-hand knowledge in dealing with these problems.
