Abstract:
Thalia becomes a news reporter, interviewing two young men who acquire “runts of the litter”. She reports on an employer who operates strangely, and on a science teacher who reveals simple knowledge about everyday foods.

Other tales involve a “big-time operator”, a freed convict, a deformed baby, a destitute widow, given fifty dollars by a bank robber (unknown to her), only to find that she now must return the money.

New babies and a new bride arrive and a belligerent fellow insists on always getting his own way.

The Town Jubilee caps the stories with its many local amusements.
