Abstract:
Railroading by the Cornells is the story of the 20th Century evolution of railroads, specifically the New York Central, and its impact on three generations of the Cornell family. Mismanagement, outdated work rules, and hostility between the management and Brotherhoods (unions) led to the downfall of railroads. Interspersed with the experiences of the Cornell family are concurrent national and world events and significant changes in the City of Cleveland.

The Aftermath brings the reader to the current condition of the railroads through the elimination of poor management, outdated work rules and the adoption of new technology
