Abstract:
This book “Understanding China via poetry-A selection of 108 Chinese poems” contains 108 pieces of Chinese poem, eight of which are from the most ancient “Book of poetry” - the ‘Shi Jing’ in China; most poems in this collection are reflections of the slave society before Confucius was born in 551 BC. Then entering a period of time during which the dialectic philosophic thinking had been flourishing. Then China definitely entered its long period of feudal society along with not only its poetry reaching the high peak in Tang Dynasty but also new form of poem Ci was developed and perfected. During the last 300 years the invasion of imperialist countries put China under their colonist ruling.
