(It is) just after 8 A. M. on a not-too-hot August 14th, (and) Patricia “Patti” Hodge is running, just as she does almost every morning, getting her exercise in before the heat of the rising sun dissipates the residual cool of the departed night.
It is August 14th, 1961, and, due in large measure to a bit of bad fortune, it is the last day of Patti’s young life.”
