Abstract:
After a near-death experience and the loss of his father, Arthur Newman readjusts to life at Skyview High after being homeschooled for eighth grade. High School Asylum is a tale of resilience and teenage alienation told as a nonlinear, circular tapestry of triumph and loss. In battling serious depression and questioning his own and everyone else’s sanity; Arthur discovers an outlet in creative writing that allows him to finally bury his haunting past. His journey to understand this crazy world and Skyview High results in a bold experimental novel that illuminates the life and education of an unlikely teen hero.
