Abstract:
Amid the grisly Eastern Front struggle between Nazi Germany and Communist Russia, Jürgen, a decorated Panzer Korps officer, experiences a disturbing and uninvited spiritual awakening in a Caucasian church that affects his future actions. He mixes with people of both sides with ironic and heroic consequences. Ordered to the cauldron Stalingrad, he deepens his awareness of the dangers of dogmatic ideologies, and the strengths and perils of his spiritual transformation. After the Wehrmacht defeat in that pivotal, savage battle, being cast into the corrupted communist gulag, he encounters brutal inhumanity, mysterious circumstances, a forbidden Bible, and a measure of salvation.
