Abstract:
This gathering of poems from thirty years of work by prize wining poet Vernon Schmid reveals the deepest sense of what it means to be western in one’s soul. The poems range from the very personal to sensitive historical issues, cowboy stories to the struggle of the American Indian. Filled with humor, poignancy, pain and joy, they are universal in their perception. Although some have appeared in other publications these gathering of the herd includes many new poems carrying the poet’s brand and revealing his particular insight.
