Abstract:
Unlike Lloyd C. Douglas’s The Robe and other sentimentalized novels about Jesus of Nazareth, Crucified by Pontius Pilate is based on historical fact, not ancient myth. In correspondence between Rome and Alexandria in the decadent first century, two philosophers investigate the baffling mystery of Jesus’s trial, conviction, and crucifixion. Challenging the gospels’ incoherent accounts, they explain why and how its Christian authors concocted their fantastic story absolving the guilty Romans and blaming the innocent Jews for Jesus’s crucifixion. This book is for readers who can face this historical truth: Jesus was crucified on the truthful charge that he was a rebel against Rome.
