A bayou–a friendship continuing after death–an uninhibited daughter and her brooding affairs–bi-racial family harmony triumphant even in Mississippi–a hurricane tragedy.

Abstract:
In coastal Mississippi along the banks of Bayou Duprey, the friendship of two men, Dr. Anton Duprey and Judge Braxton Bailey continues after their deaths. The story is told in the lives, loves, and problems of their descendants: Dr. Nate Duprey; Mary Henry (Anton’s daughter by his black housekeeper), and Rebecca Bailey, Judge Bailey’s uninhibitedly free-spirited daughter. Nate’s adopted children, Lorena and Emile, are essential to resolving his emotional turmoil and depression, rising from his physical relationship with Rebecca. The story takes place during the transitional social changes of the 1960’s and 70’s and a tropical hurricane which strikes Bayou Duprey.
