Abstract:
This is the story of a young Greek American soldier who, as a member of an OSS team, was landed in Northern Greece in March of 1944. He remained there for nine months. The first four months his group participated in raids against the Germans together with the Greek guerrillas, known in Greece as “Andartes.” In July, he was assigned a special mission, taken by submarine to Cairo, Egypt, and from there, to the mainland of Greece. He operated as an agent of the OSS in Athens where he was able to advise the Allies of the departure date of the German troops from Greece and to prevent the blowing up of an ammunition dump outside of the city of Athens. With the war going on, Pohl was not prevented from having amorous affairs with a number of ladies, especially the beautiful teenager, Mariana.
