It is not just a coincidence that the state of the relationship between Helen Schucman, the scribe of A Course in Miracles (ACIM) and William Thetford her boss was a mirror of the world condition of humanity. Two people who were in constant conflict just like much of the world most of the time. Not unlike the condition between countries on the world stage. Helen, the one who became internally aware of the Course content from Jesus, was a Jew. Who at the time of receiving the Course Content considered herself an atheist. Not unlike many people in the industrialized societies who were formerly religious Christians and Jews, but are now, if not total non-believers, are mostly ritualistic attendees of church and synagogue rather than true believers in the religious beliefs proclaimed by them. For many, scientific materialism has become their religion, often without consciously being aware of their change in belief. That’s not to say that there are not many people who continue to believe the teachings of traditional religion. The Course could, in fact, be understood to be a clarification of the teachings of Jesus contained in the Bible. This is an update that is desperately needed in our present world of constant conflict. The means of moving the world culture from one of conflict and separation to a world of the Oneness of Divine Unconditional Love. We all need that Miracle to happen. Does this seem like a pipe dream to you? Maybe you need to take a look at the Course material. Is now the time for humanity to recognize who we truly are? If not now, when? The Course is not for everybody because everybody is in a somewhat different place in their belief system. But it is a powerful course for those who are ready to learn from it. You may be one of those if you look. Declining church attendance in both Europe and the United States is indicative of the inability of traditional religious practices to meet many people’s spiritual needs. What is needed is an upgrade of the teachings of Christianity that would make sense to those impacted by material science and the resulting material abundance of most industrialized societies. Helen Schucman repeatedly questioned why she was chosen to be the scribe of the Course, a clear indication that her beliefs were not compatible with the content of the material that she was receiving. Each time she asked, she received the same answer: “Because you will do it.” –and she did. Also it is interesting that the Course content and her belief system were so different. Actually this is an advantage since it strengthens the validity of what was received. It is not likely the content is merely the projection of Helen’s belief system. It supports the idea that the information came from a different source other than her subconscious beliefs. You are the same person both before and after death. There is only one you. You don’t have to die to discover your true identity. Your true self is always the same you. The only thing that changes is a better awareness of who you are. You can awaken to your true self in a physical body. What keeps you unaware is your belief in your physical being. If you identify with your physical body your awareness of your true self is hidden. Think beyond the physical and your spiritual reality will become your natural awareness because that is who you truly are. Even though the physical body seems so substantial and real, it is much less than you imagine. Quantum mechanics has reduced it to the interaction of energy probabilities or even less; or more, depending on our belief system. Maybe reality is just a thought despite our belief in its physicality. Physical reality is a fantasy long asserted by Eastern religions; now confirmed by Western quantum physics. You are deceived by believing what you know with your physical senses. Quantum theory is the end of the material. We are free to scientifically move beyond the material. It is the beginning of a science of spirituality, the nonmaterial. This reality is the basis of both you and the universe. Creation appears to be a thought, but by whom or by what? No wonder many believe in a God who could be the creator of that thought. Most of us, while we are in our physical bodies, do not realize our capacity for unconditional love. Most of us are content to express conditional love. Some people are entitled to our love while others are not. We all know who those loved ones are: wife, husband, children, relatives (with exceptions perhaps) close friends and other “special” people to us. The concept of extending love to every human being appears to us to be insane. Just look at the horrible things some people do. Surely they can’t be entitled to our unconditional love. We think God chooses who He loves and rejects others. That has been the belief of most humans forever, and is the belief system of many of the world’s religions who believe in a judgmental god. But God’s love is not limited like our belief in love is. Our inability to grasp the concept of universal unconditional love is what has resulted in the constant conflict on planet Earth. We constantly judge others and determine if they warrant our love (or even acceptance). Most, except for a few, fall into the category of “not entitled” or at best, “partially entitled”. We collectively are unbelieving of the concept of universal unconditional love. We can easily sight hundreds of examples of why unconditional love is a phantasm. We don’t know most of the people of the world so how could we possibly love them? We see only skin deep and believe primarily in physical existence. (Although the physical is rapidly disappearing, thanks to quantum mechanics.) Even though we have no basis for making sweeping judgments about people we are constantly doing so. We are constantly judging rather than loving. We keep creating our own pain by the separation we create.
