In this book I will examine the basics of how the early varieties of Christian faith and worship evolved into the wide variety of major faiths today and what this means for the search for God in the 21st Century. I will concentrate mostly on the development of the Christian faith and leave the details of the other major faiths to others. I will also discuss some of the techniques used by Biblical scholars and Biblical historians to examine religious documents and how their scientific work has made it possible for the modern Bible to be available today.
I will not attempt to cover in any significant detail the wide range of technological developments that have taken place in the last 2000 years. But I will concentrate on the exciting new developments in the bridge between matter and energy that have come out of the scientific research in the subatomic world. The Bible discusses many events in ways that many people think could not happen or may be impossible. These mysteries may now be better understood because of this new research. Modern science has now reached a point where its mysteries may be even more difficult to understand than such things as the miracles that Jesus were said to have done in the New Testament. It is my hope that if you have an open mind and heart, that some of the information I am providing in this book may help you gain a new perspective on these topics and enable you to find your answers to the true nature of reality and to see if there is an important place for Jesus, The Bible, and God in the world of the 21st Century. The directions our individual lives take are set in motion by our early experiences with our family, the community, and environment we knew as children growing up. In much the same way the Christian Church evolved and was greatly influenced by its unique community, church members, and the social, economic, and political environments that existed at the time it came into existence. Like children who grow up and become adults, the Christian church has continued to change during its 2000 year history. The Christian Church and the various other major religious faiths that came into existence during the time mankind has been on the earth have played major roles in both positive and negative ways in the course of world history. During the Christian church history, various beliefs and ideas developed in regards to Jesus, the Bible, and God. Because of the rapid growth and changes in science and technology in recent years and those that may come in the 21st Century, many people are caught between accepting the traditional religious views about Jesus, the Bible, and God or rejecting much of Christianity and becoming non-believers. There are about four general approaches that people use to learn about and/or worship or not worship God. In this book I will offer a different approach which, you the reader, may be able to incorporate in some way in your life. However no matter which approach you are now taking and your level of knowledge on these subjects, I hope this book will provide some new ideas which may help you better understand the known facts about Christianity and about the subatomic world that have now been discovered by modern science. These facts and the discoveries may make it possible to bridge the gap between these two important subjects.
A basic knowledge of how the modern Bible came into existence is one of the most important things which may help individuals to understand better the Christian faith and how it relates to modern science and the technologies of the 21st Century. The first basic fact to understand is that as of this time in history, no original manuscripts have ever been found of any New Testament writings. What have been found are small copies of parts of texts, copies of individual Biblical texts, and some copies of complete Bibles. The copies of parts and individual texts date mostly from the late 1st and 2nd Centuries A.D. The copies of the more complete Bibles that have been found date from the middle of the 3rd Century and beyond. A simple fact that also needs to be known better is that these parts, individual texts, and the more complete Bibles had to be discovered, translated, and organized in categories in order to be evaluated by many Biblical scholars over many centuries. It is also important to note that it was not until the late 19th Century and the 20th Century that additional very early Biblical texts were discovered; and some of them are still being evaluated by Bible scholars and other experts in related scientific fields. This work over many centuries needed to be done so that the Bible, as we know it, is available to mankind today. This work will need to continue into the 21st Century and beyond in order better to recover, what is possible, of the original documents and their meaning that the early Christian writers intended to pass on to future generations. I have attempted to write this book in an objective and facts-based manner. It may be possible that, you the reader, already know some of the basic factual information I have provided in this book. But if you decide to do your own research on any of the topics covered in this book, I hope that the information I have provided is structured in such a way that it will be a good starting point for your research. If you decide not to follow up with your research, I hope that by reading this book that you will gain some new perspectives on these topics and that you may be able better to understand the relationship between science and the Christian faith in this 21st Century.
