HONOUR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER THANKSGIVING BOX Parents deserve surprises from their children. The following is a suggestion to every child on earth, entitled: Honour Thy Father And Thy Mother Thanksgiving Box. This box should be given by every child to every parent. HOW IS IT DONE? Step 1 – Every time you receive money, whether income or gift, always set aside 5% or five cents out of every dollar, and put it in a special box for your parents. For example, if you receive $100.00, you put $5.00 in the box for your parents. If you receive $500.00, you put $25.00 in the box for your parents. If you receive $2,000.00, you put $100.00 in the box for your parents. Step 2 – On Thanksgiving Day, present the box to your parents as a special honour gift to them. If there is only one parent, you present this box to him or her. If there are no children, the husband can prepare an Honour Thy Father And Thy Mother Thanksgiving Box and present it to his queen; and his queen will prepare a box and present it to her king, on Thanksgiving Day. Step 3 – What they do with the gift, is their concern. If they have six children, each child should present his own Honour Thy Father And Thy Mother Thanksgiving Box to his parents. They can use those funds to go on a cruise, or a vacation, or whatever they desire, in an effort to help enjoy the rest of their lives. Step 4 – Parents should help their young children to begin the preparation of this Honour Thy Father And Thy Mother Thanksgiving Box, early in life, so that it can become a part of them as they grow to adulthood. Step 5 – If you choose to prepare this box and adopt a father and a mother to give your box on Thanksgiving Day, that would also be a blessing, if you have no parents. This Thanksgiving Box should contain about 12 months of money saved to present to your parents on that special day.
HOW DID JESUS RESPOND TO HIS PARENTS? Jesus, when He was here on earth, honoured and obeyed His father and His mother, according to the commandments. They taught Him, at a very early age, how to love God, how to love His father and His mother, and how to love and care for others. They also taught Him how to be industrious, how to help with home duties, how to work in the carpenter’s shop, and how to actively participate in the services of the church. When His father died, He took special care of His mother, Mary. When He was crucified on the cross, His mother was right there with Him. You can imagine the pain in her heart to see the treatment of cruelty to her Son. In His pain and suffering, the eyes of Jesus, with great love for His mother, and looking at her grief-stricken face, said to her, “mother, behold thy Son.” Then He said to John, the beloved disciple, who stuck close to His mother, “John, please take care of My mother.” Then Jesus closed His eyes and died. John took Mary to his home, and took care of her. What a blessing it is to take care of our elderly parents at home, rather than to take them to some facility in isolation from loved ones. As a pastor, parishioners have come to me reporting that their elderly parents have been raped and molested in facilities away from home. How sad! Jesus gave us an example on how our parents should be treated in their old age. Is it not part of our religion to respect and provide for our parents when they are unable to care for themselves? If we truly love God, we will never fail to give thoughtful care and tender sympathy to our parents.
