I have used online schooling to obtain two masters degrees, two professional certifications and I am currently matriculating for a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, at a prestigious New Jersey University. In addition, I have been teaching as an adjunct professor at another prominent university located in Washington DC in their Clinical Research Leadership Program. I have been on each side of on-line learning both as a student and as an instructor, and for many years I wore both hats at the same time. If you are like me, you too wear many hats in your life. I am a busy healthcare administration professional, part time real estate agent, adjunct professor, professional mentor, entrepreneur, movie reviewer to name a few of my many professional hats. I am also a devoted Christian, mother and wife. My first venture to on-line learning stemmed from a need for updating my skills due to a layoff. I was working in mortgage and banking industry which took a big hit from the stock crash in 1986. I lost my job and relied on my clerical skills to land a position in administrative support for clinical project managers. I fell in love with science and drug development, but knew that I had to update my skills to begin a career in pharmaceutical science. Well, over the span of 10-11 years, and 2 degrees and one professional certification later consisting of a Masters in Business Administration, a Masters in Clinical Research, and project management professional certification, I advanced from an Administrative position to project analysis, project manager, clinical project manager, clinical operations manager. I had a stint of six years as a well sought out pharmaceutical research consultant. I firmly believe that advancing my skills lead to this career recovery and it could not have been done in my personal circumstances without online education. I made some mistakes with choosing schools and curriculum. However when I started, I could not find resources to help me with school or program selection.
