We are thrilled to have this opportunity to present our book, but as I was thinking about what to say, I felt some trepidation that perhaps what we’re saying is too simple and too insignificant. Then we decided that that is actually the book’s strength. Our book is more of a booklet and is barely sixty pages. In terms of size, it’s definitely insignificant, but anyone can read it because we are all capable of the insignificant. The best caregivers focus on achieving just that. They don’t have to be doctors or pharmacists. They just have to religiously complete the most basic tasks, and that is where all their power lies. There is little glory in the tasks themselves, but honoring those simple things gives life. Become an expert on the insignificant.
The paradigm shift is that much of this is about you. The relationship between caregiver and loved one holds great power. We generally think of caregiving as something that happens outside of ourselves. We are facilitating their journey and taking care of their needs, but the relationship is reciprocal and holds something for you as well. It is also our journey and profound deep changes and growth can take place within us.
