The next day the same drama happened over and over again to Mimi. Now, the rumor was that Mimi was out on a date with a woman yesterday. The teasing was followed by spit balls and paper being thrown at her. Someone had even written “Slut” on her locker. Needless to say, Mimi was devastated and once again she ran away from school. One of the guys from school, Tommy, recognized her as she headed towards the trails. He was arriving late to school with his brother. They could tell the expression on Mimi’s face was exhibiting fear. Unfortunately for Mimi, the two guys did not care one bit. Tommy asked his brother to turn the car around. He told his brother that this was the girl everyone was talking about in school. Once Mimi was in sight, the guys jumped out of the car and followed Mimi through the trails in the woods. When they caught up to her, they each took turns raping her. After they were done, they ran away laughing and saying, “This is how it feels to be with a man.”
Mimi remained there in the fetal position for another hour, shaking, crying, and moaning. She could not get up to face the world again. Her body was abused, bruised and torn like never before. She was treated like she was less than human. Her tears continued to fall as she imagined going back to a school that now knew she had sex with two guys. She knew the story would not be told truthfully, the way it actually happened. She knew the story would be embellished and would damage what little creditability she had left in that prison. Her mind began to wander and spin. The spinning was fast, as if she was about to go crazy.
Feeling out of control, she began to walk away. She was crying and in such pain that she never heard the lady who walked by her and asked if she was OK. She hadn’t even seen her. She just looked away and shut out the world that had betrayed her, the world that had taken something from her that she’d never get back. This world had stolen her dignity, and it kept spinning and moving on without her.
