This is a book about evolution, material and spiritual evolution. It looks at cosmic developments in an expanding, ever-changing universe and explores how certain of these evolutionary developments have engendered the endowments of human consciousness and spiritual awareness. In producing life, mind, and consciousness, the universe has created a means through which the beauty of its physical and spiritual content can be observed by and reflected in humanity. In so doing, the universe has implanted in us an evolutionary impulse to transcend the material inclinations of our being by replacing the domination of the ego with an awareness of soul. Bestowed with an innate intellectual curiosity to explore what is unknown, we are empowered to live on the forward edge of evolution and even participate in the co-creation of our own future development. The universe has gifted us with energy, intelligence, and the nonmaterial structures of mind, consciousness, and soul by which we can evolve beyond the material plane and in so doing to increasingly recognize our place in the grand scheme of an evolving cosmos. For humans, it is intrinsic to our nature to change and evolve; it is the reason for our being here. In the act of becoming more than we currently are, we move our personal being a little closer to the Being responsible for the cosmos and its life. In gaining more spiritual enlightenment, there is less separation between creature and Creator. In seeking oneness with the universe, we dare in humility to know the mind of the Creator. Einstein, Hawking, and other scientists have developed theorems that take their, and perhaps our, comprehension of the universe to within a tiny fraction of a second following that energetic flash that birthed the cosmos. Their goal is to project scientific knowledge to the very threshold that marks the beginning of space, time and matter. Thus, by studying the intricacies of design that define the structures the universe, they aspire to discern something of the mind and intention of the creative agency. To step beyond the critical demarcation separating our universe of space, time, and matter from whatever realm that may have existed prior to the big bang is a goal unlikely to be fulfilled by the science. The natural laws in the universe upon which investigative science relies may not be the same set of laws that were in place prior to the beginning of our universe. Physical science has not succeeded in moving their knowledge past this crossover point so the evolutionary imperative to know must shift to the use enlightened consciousness in order to glimpse the mystical yonderworld outside the four dimensional domain of space/time. Consciousness can function in a realm inaccessible to the laws of physical science or sensory processing by the brain. When consciousness evolves to its loftier levels, human awareness can travel beyond the physical confinement of space/time and enter the sphere of spiritual knowledge. Our space/time world is four-dimensional but quantum physics has uncovered a nine-dimensional universe. Science and our physical senses cannot take us outside the first four-dimensions but under the right conditions, consciousness can gain access to the wider dimensions of the universe. By seeking step-by-step enhancements in spiritual evolution, we respond to an inborn push that is the natural result of the same evolutionary growth imperative that has moved us across many stages of the biosphere and into a world where an awakening consciousness can open an awareness of Spirit. If the original cosmic energy of the big bang issued forth from Spirit and the ensuing evolutionary progression of the universe has moved from substance to consciousness, it appears that evolution is seeking a full-circle return to its spiritual origins. As individuals, our essential role in this creative progression is to participate and evolve by becoming co-creators, to move beyond the materialism of the ego-self and to realize psychological and spiritual growth. According to Jesus,
If the flesh came into being because of spirit, that is a marvel, but if spirit comes into being because of the body, that is the marvel of marvels
Einstein spent his life studying matter and energy and eventually, with the advance of his scientific knowledge, he began to see an equivalency between energy and spirit. As humans, we are beings of matter, energy and spirit and just as matter in the universe can convert to energy (E=MC2) likewise we can use our physical bodies to transmute energy into spiritual awareness. Einstein believed that,
The further the spiritual evolution of mankind advances, the more certain it seems to me that the path to genuine religiosity does not lie through the fear of life, and the fear of death, and blind faith, but through striving after rational knowledge
Einstein did not consider himself to be religious in the conventional sense but rather professed a religious dedication to explore the mysteries of the universe. My religiosity consists in a humble admiration of the infinitely superior spirit that reveals itself in the little we, with our weak and transitory understanding, can comprehend of reality. Ascended masters of the past have achieved their high states of spiritual enlightenment by looking within, opening the unconscious mind, and discovering secrets to illuminate a personal path. Once attained, this lofty spiritual state surpasses the norms of sensory and physical experience. It is reached through the exercise of intuition and the discovery that the power of the universe exists in the unconscious mind. This is an ability intended not only for the chosen few. As one such master said, All that I have done, you will do and more. Science and eastern philosophies teach that there is an interconnected oneness about the universe. If we are one and interconnected, it means that if others who have preceded us have become enlightened masters then all have this same potential. It is a matter of discovering your purpose and infusing that purpose into daily life.
