WHY I LIKE TO WRITE If the subject was to be answered twelve years ago, I wouldn’t know the answer then. However after my first novel was published – To Be Young Again So I Could Date – I received a phone call from a woman in Daytona Beach. “Mr. Crosby, my daughter bought a copy of your book since I’ve been a widow for eighteen years. I laughed and cried while reading your interesting book. That book should be in every house in Florida who has a person over sixty-five. I’m contacting both newspapers saying they should mention how good the story.” Two weeks later a reporter came from the Daytona newspaper and spent forty-five minute interviewing me and taking my picture. The following Friday they had three-quarters page about my book and me. The reporter ended his article saying “Mr. Crosby lives to write.” I sold thirty some books the next month. During the nine years, I’ve written fifteen novels. Every so often I receive calls from readers saying they’ve read book-so-and-so and enjoyed the story very much. Before writing novels and articles for the writing class, I used to rent books from the local library and read lot. Many of the books were very dull and not interesting. Time and again I turned pages looking for some interesting part of the book. I’ve received many remarks from readers that they consider my books page-turners seeking what’s going to happen next page. In my book – A Lake With An Island Mystery --I received an E-mail from an Easter Star big shot in Michigan that he started reading the book at two in the afternoon and stayed up until one in the morning, as wanted to learn what the mystery was. Stated he was surprised to learn about the mystery, stating it was a very interesting book. I believe the subjects assigned by the class leader keeps my mind active. Sometimes I haven’t the slightest idea what to write on some subjects. I’ll sit at the computer maybe a half hour or more thinking of something to say for the subject. Suddenly something comes to my mind which may have happened sixty years or more. In other words, writing for the class keeps my mind and brain active. There’s an old saying – “Keep your mind and brain busy, and your body will remain more active, too.” Maybe that’s why I keep getting older and now am ninety-five.
