Buzby
Christy Sheehan
Buzby was born in a beehive high above the ground in a tall walnut tree overlooking a field of wildflowers. He was as ordinary as any other bee except, he was slightly larger and his yellow stripes were slightly brighter. Buzby was a happy bee and a very hard worker; in fact he worked harder and longer hours than the other bees in the beehive. But Buzby had one small problem, flying made him dizzy and he was afraid of heights. So, Buzby kept to himself most of the time and kept his problem very well hidden. He did have a few friends that he flew with but, always low to the ground, explaining that it was much more adventurous that way.
Every morning when Buzby and his friends left the hive they would go to work pollinating flowers and making honey. But when he thought no one was looking he would rest underneath the flower petals because all that flying made him dizzy.
One day a small boy named Kirk wandered into the field of flowers where Buzby just happened to be resting. While wading through the colorful fragrant field Kirk spotted a big yellow one that he knew his mother would Love, so he ran over to it to pick it for her. Suddenly he noticed a rather large honey bee resting under one of the big yellow petals "you're not gonna sting me big ugly bee" Kirk said as he removed one of his tennis shoes lifted it high over his head and threw it at poor little Buzby.
Luckily Buzby had seen the small boy and the shoe that was about to squash him.
