CELL THERAPY The first single on Goodie Mobs first album; we brought the flavor on every track, but this one was special. Every verse that I spit on the album I wrote in my mother’s home. The first video that we shot for the album was for “Cell Therapy,” and we shot the video in the house that I grew up in that my uncle rented to my mother. I took my time on the verses I wrote and took in my life story and laid it down on the microphone. We were some dirty south niggas and we finally had a chance to give the south a voice! I had been thinking about the hook to “Cell Therapy” for years long before the Goodie Mob days: “Who’s that peeking in my window, BLAOW, Nobody now!” The first time I heard the beat to “Cell Therapy” I was at Stankonia Studio in the “A.” I had a verse already written and was ready to drop it on the track. The beat was different to me because it had a piano sound to it and it just was a single waiting to happen. After I laid my verse, Gipp, T-Mo, and Cee-Lo laid their verses on the track, and it was a hit ever since. The West Coast welcomed the MOB with open arms. They were feeling our album just as much as the South. Even 2 Pac was down with us! Not known to many, 2 Pac wanted to become a member of the Goodie Mob. Once, we received a letter from 2 Pac while in jail and he said, “When I get out this hell hole I want to ride with the Goodie Mob and put some tracks down”! We were ecstatic to hear that Pac wanted to be down with us. Who wouldn’t have wanted to put a track down with Pac? The man was a musical genius and was always working hard! T-Mo, Gipp, Our Manager, and I went to Pac’s studio as seen in a video posted on the internet. Pac was always working and never took a break. We were of course welcomed with open arms into the studio while Pac was recording. Looking back on that day, I wish we could have dropped some versus on the track he was doing because I’m sure we would have made some great music. Pac always stayed crunk though! Always wearing fatigues and just rolling hard where ever he went. While at the Soul Train Awards, I met Suge Knight and Pac for the first time, the same night Suge went off on Puffy about being all in the videos. Their whole camp was imposing and was not quiet about getting what they wanted. They rolled deep into the awards as if to make a statement. However, they were down with our music and we were down with theirs. Having 2 Pac wanting to be a part of Goodie Mob is now an honor and gives even more reason to bring the group back together. While performing at a show in Atlanta we got word that Pac was shot and killed. We found out afterwards and truly miss him, and the potential places we could have gone musically had he been alive The world could now see that the south isn’t just a bunch of ignorant niggas and that we were going through the same struggles and times as everyone else. Cell Therapy was getting major play out in the West. They were feeling what we had to say and we had a lot to say! Going on the road to do shows was crazy. For me, going on tour was like a vacation. The label was giving us money to eat and buy shit and there was no mother or father there to keep us in line. It had that feeling of going away for college and just being able to let loose! We now had a video that was getting spins around the world, and we were on tour and nothing could have been more fun. My focus back then was just getting out of Atlanta for the first time to see the world!
TOURING FOR THE FIRST TIME The first time we went on tour we toured with the Fugees. I was just happy to get out of Georgia to see the world. I didn’t know much about the rap game yet or at least the business side of it. Touring for me was about rocking shows, smoking, drinking, and partying. I was still close to my family always keeping in touch. My brother Marcus was in college during this time and my mother had still been working a few jobs. I called them every once in a while, but I was still excited to be away from Georgia seeing the world. The first time I got on an airplane leaving Georgia was a revelation for me! I was a country nigga from the South finally getting out. The main goal for me during the tour was to get as much pussy as possible! Women were always throwing themselves at us and that was something that was new to me. While touring the US by bus we played Playstation, watched television, and brought women on the bus everywhere we went. “Shot Gun”! This was a woman from Miami that we “All” met while in Florida performing. She was given the kitty up to everyone. I got caught up in her and was nearly chasing after her. I was less focused on the business side of performing and more focused on letting loose, fucking groupies, and rocking shows. I always used a rubber when fucking groupies, but one time, I didn’t and the bitch sent me to the clinic! I was angry! I really felt like the guy in the movie “Cujo” who had been bitten! I was feeling disgusted and pissed. However, I was just happy I didn’t get bit and catch anything serious!
