Cannon Mouth
I nodded, “Since his family’s fishing town is a popular for visitors, we go as a couple of vacationers and talk to him.” “Good,” said Al. “Since he’s Jack’s friend he and Martha could be the vacationers.” “No.” said Roy emphatically. “Martha’s pregnant.” “What?’ Said Jack. “How did you know? We did not tell anyone.” “Easy. Martha likes to flip up the stairs to your house. The last time she went up you held her elbow ever so gently, like you were protecting something precious.” Jack smiled, “Roy, what an analysis. You never cease to amaze me. Al, you are going to be a grandpa.” “So Susan and I will be the vacationers,” I said. “No, can’t do that,” said Al in his loudest booming voice, “Two singles? You would have to be married.” “Yes sir, I will consider that an order. We will get married and we will go to Pedro’s village as honeymooners. No one will suspect our particular motive.” “I- I...” stuttered Al “...did not mean..?” But Susan was hugging him by the neck and saying, “Thank you father, thank you!”
Alligator
Ed jumped up from the water’s edge as Lenny was closing in brandishing his knife. Ed grabbed her bundle and she jumped into the little pirogue, fighting for balance. Ed turned to Lenny and faced him and his knife. They come to close quarters and begin to struggle. Ed quickly had the upper hand. After a few moments, Ed grabbed the prow of the pirogue and jumped in front of Nell. She couldn’t help but admire his handsome muscular body as he paddled fast. She placed her hands on his back and Ed could feel them trembling. He didn’t stop until he got into the dense area of the swamp. He was breathing hard, but managed to say, “Hello, Nell.” Nell grinned at him and said, “Hello, Ed, you are kind of late for our date.” Ed said to himself. ‘What game girl, she puts on a brave front, in spite of the peril, we are in. I hope I can keep her morale high.’ “You see, a funny thing happened on the way to the Forum.” “Did you see that play? I loved it.” They both laugh and Nell says, “I don’t like swamps, can we get out of here? I was kind of busy and did not see what happened to Lenny and his knife.” “Lenny tried to give me that knife, but I would not take it. He still has the knife. No one will see him again. As to where we are going; after several detours, back to the yacht, hopefully.”
