"It is circa 1935 and we are still living on the Odom home place on Hurricane Creek. I remember seeing a lone figure walking up to the house from the main road. As I recall, he was not carrying anything at all much less baggage. It was summertime and he was in his shirtsleeves. Where he was coming from I have no idea but he was definitely afoot. As it developed, it was Uncle Hal Odom from Nashville Tennessee and he stayed with us a few days. I imagine he was visiting Delva/Delver [Delva Sherwood Odom] and had walked to our place. I don't think there was anybody else in the immediate family left in the Auburntown area in 1935 for I suspect that Carl (Shorty) [Earl Carl Odom] had moved to Lansing MI by that time. As I recall Uncle Hal was not an impressive figure. In fact there were a lot of Odoms that were not impressive figures and that characteristic has sustained down through the years until today :-). He and Dad did a lot of reminiscing but I recall very little of what they were talking about. If they discussed William and the rest of his family, and I'm sure they did, I no longer remember anything. I do recall that Hal had married a Haynes and for some reason the family was not too thrilled about that fact. I don't think I ever saw Hal again after he left our house."
