This is a book about a young boy name Ismael, who was born on a farm in Lares, Puerto Rico.

He is the second youngest of seven children: two boys and five girls.

Ismael became the youngest sibling after the death of his little brother Louis, who died at the age of eighteen months.

His father was a farmer and a five-year veteran, while his mother was a housewife and also a part-time seamstress.

After a hurricane loss and bank foreclosure, his family was forced to move from the farm to the city.

For Ismael and his family it was a very difficult time with many challenges. Each day was like an adventure.

As he grew older, he was picked on and sometimes beaten up by older and bigger kids.

One time it was a gang of three boys called "The Merchant Mail Gang."

Ismael was left with no other choice but to either stay away from the mall or confront the gang.
