Somewhere in the heart of June One hazy summer afternoon Hannah slept in summer's breeze Suspended beneath the cottonwood trees And in those times it always seems Her life becomes a world of dreams Half asleep and half awake On the hill by Crystal Lake Time and tide did all stand still Beneath the trees, up on the hill
Half awake her fluttering eye Watched as a butterfly flew by Dancing on the summer's breeze Dancing in between the trees Here and there, to and fro, Hannah watched the Monarch go Then in a moment it did make Its way down to the Crystal Lake Landing on a leafy stem Then fluttering away again Hannah watched it fly away On that hazy summer day.
Then before her sleeping eyes A fearsome dragon did arise Across the breadth of Crystal Lake Its tail did make a mighty wake. It reared its head and made a roar Then rustled its wings a little more The breeze from its wings stirred Hannah's hair But Hannah did not seem to care She waived her hand as if to say "Oh dragon, please, just go away." So it swept its wings to fly And rose into the azure sky.
So came along the Queen of Hearts (The one who made those famous tarts!) Seeing Hannah on her swinging bed Turned and screamed "Off with her head!" But Hannah looked the other way And in a sleepy voice did say "Oh silly Queen, go back to your palace I think you want a girl named Alice!" So the Queen did vanish with a poof Without the sound of horses hoof She vanished into the summer's air Leaving Hannah lying there Suspended beneath the cottonwood trees Gently rocked by summer's breeze
Suspended beneath the cottonwood trees Stirred by gentle summer's breeze Atop the hill by Crystal Lake Hannah dreamed and did not wake To see the hawk circling high Rising in the azure sky Gliding on the summer's breeze Above Hannah and the cottonwood trees
Hannah deep inside her dream Was floating in the air it seemed With a dragon and a gossamer swan Alongside the cloud she drifted on Over the hill and cottonwood trees She floated on the summer's breeze 'Ore Crystal Lake and Garden Wall 'Ore Rolling Stream, above them all She drifted here and drifted there Floating in the summer's air Floating to and floating fro Soaring high and gliding low Until at last she floated down With golden sun shining all around Into the hammock beneath the trees Swing in the summer's breeze Hannah slept the day away On that hazy summer's day
