CATCH FISH NOW! on Mexicos Baja Peninsula
So, you think you might need to visit the fabled Mexican Baja? Youve heard and seen the stories about the Baja -- incredible fishing everywhere, lots of world-class resorts, and golf courses sprouting up like magic. In addition, there is world-class shopping in some areas and absolute isolation in others, some destinations perfect for the wife and kids and others that require a four-wheel-drive, slit trenches, and sleeping bags. Basically, you're faced with a dilemma. Do you just randomly pick a destination -- with little consideration for all the peripheral factors that could affect your trip? Or, at the other extreme, do you devote every spare moment for months researching the possibilities? Well, obviously, neither of these alternatives is very satisfactory. But, don't fret. There is a third alternative that almost guarantees a perfect trip to the Baja. That alternative is simple. Read this book!
CATCH FISH NOW! on Mexico's Baja Peninsula carries on the tradition of success inherent in the CATCH FISH NOW! concept -- a concept that has been validated in an earlier best selling four book series about Florida saltwater sportfishing. Its founded on the idea that if you give a smart guy good when, where, and how- to information, he will be a successful fisherman. The intent of this book is to provide you with the required information. If any of the following describes your situation, for sure you need to read this book. Otherwise, skip the book and have a nice day.
* You and your fishing buddies are interested in pulling your boats to the Baja. You'd like to try inshore and offshore action and maybe even do some surf fishing. No high-end luxury required, but a roof over your head and a flush toilet would be nice. Youve always wanted to catch a roosterfish.
* It's just you and the wife. You don't want the hassle of driving, so flying is a must. Your wife likes to shop a bit and sit on the beach at a nice resort. A day or two offshore would be of interest to you. Who knows, you might even take a spinning or fly rod with you. It would be a ball to catch something off the beach.
* You and the guys want to fly in, fish all day, and party all night. When you're not doing that, you just need a decent place to sleep, shower and shave, and stash your gear.
* You have no interest in going to Baja. But you'd really like to catch some of those monster Mexican tuna, yellowtail, and wahoo you've read so much about. You dont mind long boat rides if a payoff in big fish is the result.
Youre going to be on a cruise that stops at one or more ports in the Baja. A quick big-game trip on one of those stops would be a huge thrill.
Well, if any of these sound familiar, read on. In the remainder of this chapter, we will set the stage for our trip south. We'll start with a very short overview of the Republic of Mexico and its two states that make up the Baja peninsula. Then our focus will get much more specific -- on really important things. As we do that however, don't get confused. This book is about fishing. Oh, not just any old fishing. We are going to be talking about some of the world's best saltwater sportfishing -- around Mexicos fabled Baja peninsula. That's where the action is. The Baja peninsula is unequivocally a fisherman's paradise. By any standard, it has it all: Over 75 premier game fish that approach world record sizes and cooperate 12 months of the year; incredible water that just demands to be fished in all its glory; and a diversity of opportunities that make a fisherman's toughest choice... what to fish for today. No kidding, the Baja does have it all!
How This Book Is Organized
Now, let's talk a minute about this book. It is organized so that even an old fisherman like me can understand it. In chapters 2 through 5, were going to talk about twelve very special destinations. Their inclusion in this book was not purely arbitrary. In fact, all are generally accepted by the experts as offering superb fishing -- and in some cases -- a great deal more. As we talk about each destination, we will stick to a common presentation format so you'll be able to compare particular areas of interest. Specific discussion items will include: How To Get There; Accommodations; Shopping / Nightlife; Special Attractions; and, Fishing Overview. The fishing write- ups for each destination will conclude with a representative listing of available fishing services and resources -- for beach, inshore, and offshore action.
The geographically oriented presentations in chapters 2 through 5 will be followed by chapter 6, which looks at Baja fishing from a different direction. Specifically, we'll check out the long range fleets in both San Diego and San Felipe and the trips they provide to Baja Pacific Ocean and Sea of Cortez hotspots.
Chapter 7 will conclude the festivities. It's where the rubber meets the road. It will be the CATCH FISH NOW! presentation on how to catch many/most of the gamefish that live in Baja waters The chapter is designed to provide you with the how-to information necessary to accomplish the catching part of fishing. And, interestingly enough, even when you're on a charter boat or a rental panga or whatever, your knowledge could save the day -- when everybody else has run out of ideas. Specific tactics, tips, and techniques, some thoughts on natural and artificial baits, and an overview of good Baja tackle are all included in the chapter.
Okay, it's time to get serious. The fish are out there waiting for you. Let's go confirm that this book achieves its purpose -- and helps you CATCH FISH NOW!
