Ten Stupid Things Dr. Laura Tells Women to do to Mess up Their Lives

INTRODUCTION

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has hit on the SCAM of the Century. With family values
becoming the theme of the political agenda in the late eighties-early nineties, Dr. Laura
has picked up the ball and is running with it. Her show is simply a product of
conservatism, which has become popular with the American people at this time. She is
represented as the conservative answer to religious talk radio. Her stance on most issues
is that of right wing, rich, conservative, white Americans.

Dr. Laura is the host of a daily three-hour internationally syndicated talk show. I was
compelled to write this book because of the bad advice Dr. Laura gives to callers of her
show. She bases her answers on her personal religious beliefs rather than using what she
learned in her years of training.

I started listening to Dr. Laura when she replaced another popular talk show host in a
late nighttime slot on KFI that I enjoyed. At that time she was a much better person. The
fame hadnt gotten to her head and her answers were direct and to the point, but she was
not the cynical and rude person she is today. That was many years ago. I continued to
listen because her show was entertaining and humorous.


It gave me a laugh while I worked on my computer, which I did very late most nights. I
was amazed at the stupidity of the people who called in for her advice. Then I started to
hear all of the bad advice she was giving to people who called in need of her help.

Then Dr. Laura became "RELIGIOUS". She began to demand that people change
their "EVIL" ways and live according to her personal religious beliefs. She started to
preach everyday about the way God wants people to live. All of a sudden every caller
was doing something immoral or ungodly. The first question for every caller became "Do
you believe in God?" "Do you go to church?" The answers became "You need to spend
some time in church." "God can help you solve your problems." "You must have faith in
God." "You need to have some socialization with other people who believe in God."
When someone calls her in emotional pain, she says to him or her "What do you think
God put you here for? To suffer!!" I thought this was supposed to be a radio talk show
with a highly trained therapist - not a religious program. When I found this letter, it fit so
perfectly I had to put it in the middle of this paragraph.

Letter:
"I believe that the reason for so much religious talk is because the context of Dr.
Lauras show is based on religion now. Thats one of the first things I hear. Hardly a
caller would go by without the persons religious views asked, "Do you belong to a
religious organization?...Have you talked to your pastor or rabbi?"... Why does this
need to be such a large part of the persons question/answer time on the phone? They
called to get her opinion, not a holymans.


A few years ago the show was based more on the CLINICAL evaluation, not a
religious aspect. (Anyone out there remember?) I had been a listener for several years,
but it seems to be the same dance with each caller. I am just making an observation, not a
criticism; dont get me wrong, I am very happy that the DOCTOR found happiness with
her religion, but not EVERYONE can share her religious enthusiasm. We are all so
different with different influences and family traditions.

The religious inquisition may be a way to get her audience to analyze whats in their
heart and soul, but the clinical way made people make decisions with their MINDS. I
hope some day the old show format will come back round...even though this format has
attracted a lot more attention to the show...I wonder if there are others like me who have
fallen off the Dr. Laura bandwagon? (end)

Disagreement is allowed in the real world, but not in Dr. Lauras world. No normal,
healthy person would ask for her help. It is unfortunate that those who are least able to
protect themselves are also those most likely to seek help from this kind of fraudulent
therapist. Dr. Laura likes people she can pick on. Her callers are all carefully screened
and you will never hear anyone challenge her. Lifes situations dont have simple
equations to solve them. Each human situation is complex and needs special
consideration. She is using her radio show and callers problems as a platform for pushing
forth her own agenda. She is also making a living making "SHOCK RADIO" out of
peoples lives.

Dr. Laura has also tapped in on the upcoming millennium, during which mans
yearnings for peace, freedom from evil, and the

rule of righteousness upon earth are finally realized through the power of God. Will the
world end in the year 2000? Some people believe so. It wont be the end, but it might be
the end of the world as we know it. People are becoming fearful about those changes.
They are not sure what will happen in the future and many have turned to religion to
relieve their anxiety. Sensing the anxiety, Dr. Laura is capitalizing on peoples fear and
insecurities and those who want to go back to the "Good old Days". The "Good old
Days" were only good, however, if you were male and white. Dr. Laura is trying to drag
some contemporaries back into the time of oppression for blacks, women, and other
minorities, including Jews. Her desire is to re-introduce the Victorian shame concepts of
the 50s by using terms like "shacking up", "knocked up" and "slut". Her show is not
only abysmal, but it teaches unrealistic concepts.

She has however marketed herself well!

My book, unlike Dr. Lauras books and her radio show, is a compilation of many,
many opinions, not just mine. On Dr. Lauras show there is NO discussion. Dr. Laura
NEVER accepts input. When someone has a legitimate disagreement, she cuts him or her
off and talks over them until she can transition into another call. My ultimate dream is to
be in a one on one discussion with Dr. Laura.

If youll remember, Dr. Laura only became "RELIGIOUS" 3 or 4 years ago. Dr.
Laura is listed as a member of the editorial board of the Skeptics Society. This is a
science and reason group that supports a scientific viewpoint of all matters including
religion. This view is totally at odds with the orthodox religious faith that Dr. Laura
claims to hold.

It is hypocritical to be an orthodox Jew and a member of an organization that questions
the existence of God. She has changed her agenda to fit the climate, as is her style. Her
show was not originally the moral showcase it is today. She did not receive international
fame until after she changed the format of her show to that of a religious one.

As we all know, Dr. Laura has not been a saint in her not so distant past. She has
lived with a man she was not married to, she has had an affair with a married man, she
has had an affair when she herself was a married woman, she has had sex outside of
marriage, she has broken up a family, she has taken pornographic photos, and she has
been an atheist. Dr. Laura is NOT without sin.
