There are two Testaments of the Holy Bible called the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament that contained the, history of the Hebrews, the laws of Moses and the writings of prophets. A prophet is someone who delivers messages from God and foretells the future.
The Old Testament says that his name would be the messiah or Christ. Messiah is the great deliverer of Israel. Christ is the Greek word for Messiah. Zechariah was a priest. A priest serves as a mediator between God and his worshippers. He was married to Elizabeth. They were old and she was unable to have children. The angel Gabriel told him that they would have a child and his name would be John. He remained speechless until fulfillment He returned home and it was revealed that she would bear a child. Later on, John the Baptist prepared The Way for his cousin Jesus and baptized him. Isaiah 40: 3-5 Luke 1:13 God is the ruler of the world Jesus step dad was a carpenter named Joseph. The Magi, wise men, were astrologers (people who watch the stars and planets) who followed the Star of Bethlehem to worship the Messiah. The messiah is the savior that prophecy predicted and all of the promises of God are fulfilled. They worked for an evil king named Herod. They brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Frankincense was a sweet perfume. Myrrh is a perfume used in embalming. Gold is the gift given to kings. Psalms 72:10 Micah 5:2 Matt 2:1-2 An angel of God came to Joseph in a dream. He told them to flee to Egypt and wait until he gave them word. They stayed for a few years and returned after Herod died. Hosea 11:1 Exodus 11:5 Matt 2:7 When Jesus was twelve the family went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. Passover is a big meal celebrating the escape from Egypt. When they finished they returned to Nazareth. After traveling three days they discovered Jesus missing! They returned to Jerusalem finding him at the Temple amazing the priests with his knowledge. Jesus at age 30 traveled to the River Jordan to meet John the Baptist. Jesus wanted to be baptized. A baptism is washing away of sins. A sin is breaking a law of God. I need to be baptized by you and you are coming to me? John the Baptist said. Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. Jesus said. John baptized Jesus. Jesus was tempted while in the wilderness by the Devil. The Devil is the person responsible for lies.
The Devil asked Jesus to turn stone into bread. Jesus was being tempted by the Devil to mislead people by tricks. Next, the Devil offered all of the money and luxury in the world if he followed him instead of God. Jesus was tempted with money and material possessions, just like all of us are. Putting faith in money or possessions above God is wrong Finally, the Devil asked Jesus to jump from the roof of the Temple. God will send angels to protect you! Jesus said, no I will not! The Devil left!
