Foreword
I developed GOALden Eye over five years ago because I was over-whelmed by the amount of soccer literature available which gave coaches and players literally hundreds of drills per book but which didn't translate into goals during the course of the game. This method is simple, yet thorough, and very effective because it forces a soccer player to develop total body control to score. I validated the three attack angle approach by studying over 1,000 goals including every goal scored in the World Cup since 1982. I used this method on the field to lead my team in my last season to a 10-1 record while averaging a goal a game. I then taught a 5-year old to use this method and he scored 20 goals in his first season in 3 on 3 soccer to lead his team to a 9-0 record. This year I helped to coach an under eight year old non-select team with this method and helped lead them to a 5-2 record, including two shutouts and one rain out. We scored 43 goals. This fact is even more remarkable because our leading scorers were removed from the game after scoring a hat trick in a game. So the team had a well-balanced scoring attack and other coaches were simply amazed at how well they executed on the field for a youth team. They couldn't double team any one player because every one of our players had shot at least 50 times from all the shot angles before we even stepped on the field. So I'm 24-3 using this method and it is simply incredible to watch young players catch on so quickly. I taught this method by: drilling the team at practice, providing parents the individual and team drills on paper to develop their child's play and understanding at home, providing them videotape to take home and return at the next practice or game of soccer professionals scoring from the angles, and giving players feedback during and after the game. It was a total team effort that gave the coaches time to work on team tactics while other teams were still working basic drills. The games got to the point where everyone knew why a goal was missed before I even said a word to the team. By giving the players all this practice it gave them the confidence to take their shots during a game to score. Of course not every goal went in exactly as illustrated in this manual but it taught them a sure-fire method they relied upon to score which beat the opponent soundly. The only two games we lost were the first game because two of our three practices were rained out before the season started so we were not yet playing as a team. We lost the second game 2-1 because the opposing coach knew the strength of our attack so they placed two defenders in their own penalty box the entire game. Although we had plenty of scoring opportunities we just couldn't score because the goal area was clogged. I believe GOALden Eye can improve any soccer player's skill at scoring at any level. Purchase a rebounder, use a fence or old mattress to do these drills and you'll be amazed at the astounding results. Players only get better through repetition. Basketball goals and batting cages are commonplace and that is why the United States produces the best players in these sports. I'm excited to use this method to coach tomorrow's soccer stars today and I hope you'll find it as powerful a weapon in your goal scoring arsenal as I have.
