This mix of history, description, architectural detail, and prosaic observation makes for a fun and informative read. The author has a special ability to record scenes vividly and to translate visual, sensual experiences into a comfortable narrative that transports the reader to the places he describes and causes us to relax much as a good vacation, or a good French meal, should do.

  Enchanting Passage , 06/04/2005
Reviewer: Cynthia Carlson
The author delights us with a detailed historical tour of some of the lesser traveled towns of France from the coast of Nice to Auxelles. Written with an appreciation of the French culture and history that only a well-seasoned traveler could provide. The sense of the past and beautifully written descriptive passages bring you into the scene till one can imagine being there. It is an excellent guide for planning a trip to France.

I am a native of Nice living now in the US. What a wonderful writer Joseph Callewaert is. I learned things I never knew about Nice and surroundings and was reminded of many facts I had forgotten. I simply could not put the book down. Bravo!
