Born on a farm in Grand Chain, Illinois, May 12, 1915, Harry C. Walker was orphaned at 11 years of age and taken in by his 79 year old Aunt Jane. With her support, love, and his willingness to work, he was able to attend McKendree College and Southern Illinois. He eventually received a master’s degree in Education and Social Studies. Uncle Sam and WWII interrupted Harry’s love for teaching, however, when he was sent on a real adventure to help build the Burma Road though the Huck-Cong Jungle for two and a half years.
