Abstract:
Here are a number of stories about growing up a Hoosier in Richmond, Indiana in the 40's and 50's when life seemed almost magical, lyrical, and enchanting. We entertained ourselves using our imaginations. We roamed freely and safely in our neighborhood, which seemed more like an extended family than a row of houses. We spent hours playing, exploring, and getting in touch with nature at the Glen Miller Park. These stories are less about me than about our neighborhood and its people. That neighborhood provided my first ‘mental map’ that gave me my sense of place in the world.
