Paul Stomper’s ‘Come Sunday’ is an inspirational gem for anyone who has ever sought to be their best. The spare yet elegant prose style employed throughout this work beautifully develops Stomper’s central themes of love, personal faith, and commitment to one’s personal vision.
‘Come Sunday’ contains a number of remarkable perspectives that are shaped by the use of musical and athletic metaphors. This may be the only book where, as an example, the jazz stylings of John Coltrane are woven into a fabric of references to popular sports culture to advance a powerful and enduring message.
While Christian images are plentiful throughout the text, a singular beauty of ‘Come Sunday’ is the deft manner in which Stomper presents the power and the potential of Christian inspiration without resorting to the all too common jackhammer of , ‘Believe or else!’, a typical and sometimes intimidating feature of mainstream evangelism. Stomper’s faith as highlighted throughout this text is a subtle but omnipresent power that profoundly influences his outcomes without fanfare.
‘Come Sunday’ is a resource that can be drawn upon in a single and contenting read, or in short, revitalizing snippets. As with any book that conveys numerous truths and points to ponder, ‘Come Sunday’ is a work that a reader can usefully return to for both pleasure and true reinforcement in one’s struggles to live their own vision, day to day. It is a hard and jaded heart that will not feel a sense of uplift and renewed purpose after reading ‘Come Sunday’.
