Category/Subject: COOKING / General

A “How To” manual for making kid-friendly, nutritious meals with fun for all in the preparation as well as the eating.

Abstract:
There is a tremendously important social phenomenon unfolding in the United States, and there are few books dealing with the subject in creative, interesting, and helpful ways. It has to do with the huge and growing numbers of grandparents who are caring for their grandchildren for many hours of every week or even around the clock every single day.

Grampas in particular need good guidance in order to give good guidance. This book is aimed specifically at them and it relates to one of the most important functions of caregivers: buying and preparing nutritious but kid-friendly meals, and having fun, too, with lots of participation by everyone.

Great gift idea for Grampa!! , 10/30/2005
Reviewer: Gina
I bought this for my friend's grandfather and now I am on here buying another one for my dad (who is a grampa) and noticed no one has reviewed this book yet. Well let me be the first to give it 5 stars! I love how its written just for them. Nice quick and easy recipes and who knew pizza could be so much fun. I loved "Pizza Plus." Nice to know I don't have to buy him another tie this year.

Bringing back fond memories! , 10/31/2005
Reviewer: Megan Jilek
Boy could my Grampa have used this book! I was lucky enough to live with my Grampa for almost 5 years…an opportunity most grandchildren are not as fortunate to have. However, he needed some help in the cooking area. He was an expert at burned toast, frozen fish and Hungry Man dinners! But, one area my grampa did excel in was being able to relate to us kids. He spent time with us after school and at dinner almost every night. Just like the grampa in this book, he was fortunate to be around his grandchildren and was able to help to impact their lives. It will always be the little things that will remind me of my grandpa…the burned toast, the smell of greasy fish, the loud television, and the early morning rides to school. This book is not just a cookbook. It is a helpful guide to showing love and compassion for grandchildren and everyone around you. It is a perfect gift for every grampa (or soon-to-be- grampa) out there!

Great gift for Grampa! , 11/01/2005
Reviewer: Anne and Luis
The book is thoughtfully written. It provides an easy to read introduction to different cooking techniques and wonderfully simple, yet varied recipes that all grampas and grandkids can enjoy . It's one part "how to" and one part mini cooking novel. Grampas will find the recipes a joy to prepare while spending quality time with the little ones.

Keepin' it simple for Grampa , 11/04/2005
Reviewer: Timbo
The delicious recipes in this book are all written in an extremely grampa-friendly format. Mr. Gillard acts as grampa's personal guide and mentor in the kitchen. With his colorful and anything-but-intimidating approach, Grampa Gillard removes the complexity and mystery that keeps so many grampas out of the kitchen! Get YOUR grampa a copy, then sit back, put your feet up and prepare to be impressed!

  Delicious! , 11/07/2005
Reviewer: Ted and Judy
We thought this would make a great gift for Judy's dad, who dabbles in the kitchen now and then. In the meantime, we took a shot at the baked asparagus (p. 66) recipe to see if MA and PA could pull it off and WOW! We love asparagus but never knew baking it with a little olive oil, cayenne and salt/pepper could be such a treat. Thanks Grampa! Ted and Judy. :-)

This may have a title for Grandpas but this is a great cookbook to buy to find great (and interesting) recipes to cook WITH your children. My kids pick a meal every Sunday from this book and we cook it for lunch or dinner (depending on what they pick). Very very tasty meals in here.

I bought this with FOR GRAMPAS ONLY and presented them both to my father (he's a grandfather). What a find! I would recommend this (and For Grampas Ony) just to see the look on your father's (grandfather's) face when he reads the title. Books for him and him alone.

This book is wonderful and a great choice if you know someone who takes care of their grandchildren on a full time basis. There are a lot of good recipes that an adult can cook along side a child. That is important to me. There should be more books with this idea.
